Exotic Honeymoons

Top 10 Exotic Honeymoon Destinations

A wedding is one of the most important events in a person's life. So, why not celebrate with a honeymoon in an exotic location? Here we present our list of the "Top 10 Exotic Honeymoons."

1. Tahiti

Tahiti is often near the top of everyone's most-exotic honeymoons list. Go snorkeling in crystal clear green waters. Sun bathe on the white-sand beaches. Take a bicycle tour around lush green jungles. Oh, yes, and black-sand beaches. Be sure to check out Lafayette Beach, one of the best black-sand beaches in Tahiti.

2. Santorini - Greek Islands

Exotic and ancient. A very romantic combination. One of the Greek Islands in the Aegean Sea, Santorini is the remains of an enormous volcanic explosion, which led to the creation of the water-filled caldera. Consider a stay at Katikies, which is perched on the Caldera cliffs, 300 feet above the sparkling waters of the Aegean.

3. Fiji

Another tropical paradise that makes the 'Top 10' lists is Fiji. No wonder. Look up 'breathtaking sunsets' in the dictionary and you'll find a picture of Fiji. Ride horseback through the surf next to pure blue water. Stay at Turtle Island and enjoy a quiet romantic dinner on the pier. It's no wonder the producers of the Blue Lagoon film chose to shoot here. No sets required. This is the real thing.

4. Harbour Island - Bahamas

Want something really exotic? How about a beach with pink sand? Harbour Island in the Bahamas is world renowned for its 3-miles long pink sand beaches. In fact, some consider these beaches to be the best in the Bahamas. If you're into diving, you probably already know that Harbour Island boasts one of the top dive sites in the world, known as Current Cut. Of course you'll want to stay at the Pink Sands Resort, named "#2 Top Atlantic Ocean Resort" in the Conde' Nast Traveler's Reader's Choice Awards.

5. Tasmania - Australia

Tasmania is a heart-shaped island off the southern tip of Australia. Although it's Australia's smallest state, it's the most geographically diverse. A honeymoon there includes long, white beaches, as well as dense rainforests and wild rivers. As the world's most mountainous island, Tasmania offers incredible rappelling opportunities.

6. Necker Island - British Virgin Islands

Be forewarned - a honeymoon on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands can put a serious dent in your savings account, but, if you have the bucks, a honeymoon on Necker Island is something which gives you serious bragging rights. Necker Island is owned by Sir Richard Branson and, for $51,000 per night, with a minimum stay of 5 nights required, you can rent the entire island for you and 28 of your closest friends. In the event you don't want to rent the entire island, you and your newly-wedded spouse can opt to rent an individual accommodation during one of the "Celebration Weeks," which are non-exclusive weeks where anyone can rent just one accommodation and share the island with others who can shell out $25,400 per couple per week. (Please note, these are 2009 rates)

7. African Photo Safari

Kenya, “home” of the safari, still holds the reputation as the ultimate safari destination! After all, this is where one of the greatest wildlife spectacles occurs - the Great Wildebeest Migration of the Masai Mara. Kenya is renowned for its outstanding wildlife, wide open plains, breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, and a glorious palm fringed coast with white sandy shores.

8. Costa Rica

How about a zip line tour whizzing past the Arenal Volcano? Hot and steamy. Well, it is your honeymoon.

9. Motu Toopua - Bora Bora

Specifically, the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort & Spa, located on Motu Toopua, which is a private island in the Bora Bora lagoon. Overwater villas - what more could you want on your honeymoon?

10. New Zealand

New Zealand must be the world's most unspoiled environment. Honeymooning in New Zealand gives you the best of all worlds: pristine sandy beaches, cliffs and glaciers, volcanoes, fjords, forests and more! The high season is their Summer, which is December through February. But, if you're a wine lover, you may want to go in their Fall, March through May.
